Moringa uses




Moringa oleifera is a plant with many medicinal, nutritional and health values and properties. That is why it is called a miracle plant with many healing powers. Every part of moringa tree is useful for the treatment of various health conditions.

The fruit of the Moringa plant is used as vegetable. The leaves are eaten as soup and native salad in the northern part of Nigeria. The leaves are dried and preserved under room temperature without losing its nutritional and medicinal values. The leaves can also be taken as tea and used to feed livestock.

According to the results of various researches carried out in different laboratories in the world, moringa leaves have about four times the calcium equivalent of milk, more vitamin C than oranges, more potassium than bananas, 3 times the iron content found in spinach, more vitamin A than carrots, and twice the protein in milk.

The tree’s bark, roots, fruit, flowers, leaves, seeds, and gum are very useful medicinally. They are used in the treatment of rheumatism and other inflammatory conditions, used as an antidote for venomous bites, and as an antiseptic. Moringa seeds are used to treat erectile dysfunction and to prolong sexual activity in women. It can also be used for weight loss.

Research results also show that Moringa seeds contain up to 40% edible oil, this is odorless, clear and resistant to rancidity. It has been promoted recently as a possibly source of oil for the manufacture of biodiesel. The oil is often called ben oil, named after the behenic acid contained in the oil.

The remains of moringa seeds, after crushing for oil, can be used as a fertilizer or as a water treatment flocculant, which can produce a 90-99% reduction in bacteria.
